At Tonbridge Grammar School we shall be marking and celebrating The Queen's Platinum Jubilee in a variety of ways, alongside the national programme of events this year.
To mark Accession Day in school, we would very much like to display a collage of reflections of 1952 from our school community.
We would love to hear your reflections to the following suggested questions.
If you prefer to email, write or phone me that is lovely too. Email me pippablackstone@tgs.kent.sch.uk phone 01732 365125 or write to me at Tonbridge Grammar School Deakin Leas Tonbridge Kent TN9 2JR.

Accession Day 6 February 2022 marks 70 years since The Queen acceeded to the throne on the death of her father King George VI. Her Majesty has gone on to reign longer than any other British Monarch in history, and to become a beloved figure around the world.
In 1952, King George VI's health was poor, and illness forced him to abandon a proposed Commonwealth tour. Princess Elizabeth, accompanied by Prince Philip, took his place. On Wednesday 6 February 1952, she received the news of her father's death and her own Accession to the throne while staying in a remote part of Kenya. In an instant, she had ceased to be Princess Elizabeth and became Queen Elizabeth II.
A Platinum Jubilee Display in our School Library
The very best place for our Platinum Jubilee displays is in our thriving School Library situated in the heart of the School. Our school library literally buzzes throughout the day, offering every child in school a vast catalogue of reading for both pleasure and to support teaching and learning. Thanks to our passionate and skilled librarian, students can choose their books and sign them out, and they learn referencing and research to support their core lessons, and prepare for reading and learning for life beyond school.
We are so very proud and grateful for our school library, not least because over the last five years it has been funded entirely thanks to our own annual fundraising. Alongside parents and alumni and friends of TGS we are forever grateful to TGS alumna Victoria Hislop who has been supporting an annual books budget. All students now read physical books as part of dedicated timetabled lessons, and in lockdown we also invested in online reading to ensure that the love of reading for pleasure could go on uninterrupted.
