Meet our Textile Innovator Ruby Class of 2025
What did you study at TGS Sixth Form?
My Sixth Form choices were Design Technology, Chemistry, Psychology, English, Maths and Spanish. My research project wason Smart Materials (concrete that heals itself!). I am a huge football fan, and I incorporated my Maths coursework studyingattendances at women’s football matches across the country (up the Arsenal).
Where did you go next?
I am at the University of Leeds studying – with a scholarship - BSc Textile Innovation and Sustainability (the science behindfabrics). I am enjoying societies including football, exploring a new city and visiting my TGS friends at their universities. Iwould like to pursue a career in Materials Testing or Sustainability Consultancy. TGS Sixth Form led me to this opportunity.
What did your TGS education give you?
I attended an open day, just like you are now, and felt like TGS was the place I wanted to be. Immediate warmth and supportfrom teachers, excellent facilities and overall atmosphere that everyone wants to achieve. Following GCSEs, I struggled withmy mental health. The Sixth Form Wellbeing Team could not have handled it better, supporting me through my 3-year course:Daily check-ins at the start of every day; Personal teacher mentor to set achievable goals for me each week; Tailoreddeadlines for coursework; Adjustments in assessments and my timetable.. The teachers are always there for you. Thisenabled me to flourish. There is no other school I would have rather chosen to support me.
Why Design, Why TGS for students choosing now?
TGS is an incredible school that offers so many opportunities to its close-knit community of students: trips abroad, languageproficiency, talks from industry professionals, individual coursework projects supported by teachers allowing students toexplore personal passions. The support of the Sixth Form Team is unrivaled, checking in with students when there aredeadlines due, guiding futures with help on revision strategies, personal statements and applications, and always providing aspace to talk. The best years of my life so far were spent at this school, the group of students it creates that all look out forone another, have fun celebrating together and go on to achieve at universities, apprenticeships and jobs across the countryis something I am proud to have been a part of.
