It was an easy decision for me to make a donation to the Stepping Out crowdfunder appeal.

Read this article, and then if you would like to join me, here is the lnk to give to Stepping Out with Carers

Our gifts will also give more TGS the chance to meet and be inspired by some great athletes in 2021.

If you decide to make a gift, please tell me on an email and I will get in touch with Sue Mott.

You can email me at pippablackstone@tgs.kent.sch.uk

The introductions we make within and beyond the classroom at Tonbridge Grammar School often lead to connections and friendships to last a lifetime.

Meeting Sue Mott, Sport Journalist and Founder of Stepping Out with Carers, is just one such example.  'Community' is in our DNA at Tonbridge Grammar School through - but not limited to - years 7 to 11 volunteering, and as part of the IB Diploma CAS (creativity, action, service)

We first met Sue Mott in 2017

2017 - Changing the world one challenge at a time

2017 - Sue Mott was our Prizegiving speaker

2018 - Stepping Out with Carers at Penshurst Place

2018 - Tom Bosworth demonstrates race walking

2020 - Sue's email to me dated 23 October reads ......

Dear Pippa,

How lovely of you make a pledge to our Crowdfunder campaign after all this time. It’s been such a peculiar year of makeshift outings but so fabulous when we have been able to get together. The greatest event was quite close to you, at Bewl Water, and was such a hit we are definitely going to do it again next year. I’ll let you know in case any of your pupils (Covid willing) would like to join in.

I thought you might like to know too that in the last few days of our Crowdfunder campaign we are offering sensational discounted opportunities for schools, businesses or clubs to bid for an appearance (any time between now and end of of 2021) from an Olympian, Paralympian or World Champion superstar.

Karen Pickering - Olympic Swimmer, BBC broadcaster, after-dinner speaker and all round fabulous woman. (Plus mum of two hilarious twin daughters,)

Emma Wiggs - Paralympic gold medal winning canoe champion, wonderful talker, former  sitting volleyball player at the London 2012. She is also offering a piece of signed kit from 2016 Rio Olympics.

Emily Evans - GB Rafting team world champion and adventurer - with fabulous tales of exploring the Amazon. Our own Herts-based superstar.

Normally they would command fees in their thousands for appearances but for our Crowdfunder campaign the reward cost doesn’t go beyond £100. These are offered on a first come/first served basis. So be good idea for someone who makes the pledge to get in touch with me immediately by email.

Crunch time for us - we’re less than £400 from our target, which is thrilling and traumatic equally.

Thank you so much for all the help you’ve given us. Have never forgotten how very friendly and thoughtful your pupils were at our event at Penshurst Place.

Very best

Sue

If you decide to make a gift on the crowdfunder be sure to let Pippa Blackstone know!
