TGS 120 Chapter Jacque Grannum nee Brooke Class of 1964

Thank you for your mail and invitation for a contribution!

I was at Tonbridge Grammar from 1957 to 64 and then went on to Bishop Otter College in Chichester and Teacher Training as it was then, in PE and Art, on  Miss Arnold’s advice, as she thought I would make a good P E teacher!

Teaching was the greatest job and I taught in various schools and areas until retirement in 2006.

I lived in Edenbridge so traveled to school on the train, organised into carriages each with its carriage Prefect.

Tonbridge was a great school and I am so pleased and lucky that I enjoyed seven years there.

Some thoughts below!

All good wishes

Jacque

ON PEMBURY ROAD

Tramp, tramp, tramp, tramp!

Up the road we go,

‘My skirt’s too short, my skirt’s too short,

Oh no, Oh no, Oh no!’

Tramp, tramp, tramp, tramp!

On and on we go,

‘I’ve lost my hat, I’ve lost my hat,

Oh, how could I do that!?’

Tramp, tramp, tramp, tramp!

Miss Woolverson, Miss Mallard too,

both have an eagle eye,

I have to hope they look away

when I am passing by!

The day is done, detention looms,

my hat and skirt were wrong,

 another hour as punishment,

it makes the day so long!

Not catch the ‘Late’ but home for tea,

is where I’d rather be,

to giggle, laugh and share the tale

of everybody’s day.

Trudge, trudge, trudge, trudge,

Down the road we go.
