Alumni Stories |
I am sad to report that my sister, Vivienne, passed away on October 9th after a short illness.
Vivienne attended TGS from September 1958 until 1963, leaving at the end of her Lower 6th year. She then attended London University and studied Library Sciences. .After graduation she worked as a librarian in various Public Libraries and Youth Centres in South West London.
In 1966 Vivienne emigrated to Canada, where she worked at Sir George Williams University in Montreal as Librarian in Charge, from 1967-1971. After a brief return to London in 1972, she returned to Montreal and worked first at the Gymnasium Library at McGill University, and then at McGill's Redpath LIbrary where she became Head Librarian. At the same time she attended McGill's Graduate School to study Human Resources Management. After receiving a Graduate Diploma she accepted the position of Adjoint Director of Building Services and Facilitiies Management at McGill, a postion which she held until her Retirement in 2010.
Vienne credited her interest in becoming a Librarian to the mentorship of Miss Mallard, Head Librarian and History Teacher at TGS, during the years she was a student at TGS. She often said that volunteering as a library assistant during those years she learned more from the unforgettable Miss M. than she did in Class.
Vivienne leaves behind her husband Nikolai, who resides in Quebec, and her son Langley, his wife Steffanye, and his daughter Zoe, who all live in the Ottawa area of Ontario, Canada.
