Meet our Scientist Becca Class of 2016

Rebecca (Class of 2016)

"I am a Senior Scientist at LabGenius Therapeutics. I work in the Cell Biology & Assay Development team to research new antibody-based drugs to treat solid tumours".

Why did you decide to study Biochemistry at university?  I chose to study Biochemistry because my favourite parts of Biology and Chemistry were learning how our bodies work at a cellular level. Studying Biochemistry introduced me to my interest in oncology (study of cancer) and new exciting methods that are being researched to treat it.

What does your working week look like? My week contains a mix of planning, executing and analysing experiments to test how well our drug candidates kill cancer cells, and any other characteristics that they may have.

How did Tonbridge Grammar School shape your future?  TGS taught me resilience and a strong work ethic. I wouldn't have made it through university exams without my Biology teacher's revision techniques!

What has been your proudest achievement so far?  Speaking about my work at a conference in Cambridge in front of 200 people!

Subjects studied in the Sixth Form at TGS: HL Biology, Chemistry and Geography.  SL Maths, English and German.

My Science teachers were Mr Fitt, Mr McDaid, Miss Myers, Mr Barker

We are so grateful to Becca for her visits to school and for updating us on her careers so far, inspiring the next generation of TGS Scientists.
