Meet our TGS Computer Scientist Alice Class of 2018
What did you study at TGS Sixth Form?
Computer science appealed to me because of the endless applications, websites and therefore services/companies that you can build from scratch. With software underpinning nearly every industry, the career options are limitless. Beyond that, CompSci itself has such a variety of interesting areas to specialise in.
Where did you go next?
I studied Computer Science and Business at the University of Warwick. Not the easiest choice as a degree but I don't expect many people at TGS going for the easy route! I had the unique opportunity to pursue my dissertation on a topic close to my heart - polo industry research and software innovation….building on my IB CompSci project.
After uni with a few internships in banking under my belt, I spent a season playing polo before joining Baringa Partners, a leading management consultancy. I joined the Tech Transformation team for 2.5 years and began to specialise in low-code/no-code use of applications for companies and I loved working there. During that period, I started working on Lineup Polo Ltd - the company I'd always aspired to create. I made the bold decision to dedicate myself to it entirely and left Baringa.
What do you do now?
Nearly 5 years into my role as Co-Founder and CEO of Lineup Polo, the journey has been a heck of a steep learning curve but unbelievably rewarding. While I no longer write code myself, my technical knowledge is vital for employing and managing our development team.
What did your TGS education give you?
Everything I've achieved stems from the foundation the teachers at TGS gave me, not just academically, but by teaching me to enjoy the process of learning and working towards something. Mrs. Ghali and the entire team - I can’t thank you enough….I am very, very lucky.
