Meet our Economist Amelia Class of 2014

Why did you choose Economics at TGS?​

I chose Economics because I was fascinated by big social and macroeconomic issues andhow decisions are made, especially growing up during the financial crisis.​

Where did you go next? ​

I took a gap year, studied PPE at Durham University, and joined the HM Treasury graduatescheme. I completed a Master’s in Economics at Cambridge, returned to HM Treasury towork on macroeconomics and housing spending. ​

What do you do now? ​

I’m just finishing my role at HM Treasury, about to start a career break to work in the Ugandan central bank as an ODI Fellow. ​

What did studying Economics at TGS give you? ​

I developed critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills that I still use every dayin advising ministers and senior officials on spending decisions. ​
