Meet our Computer Scientist Alexis Class of 2015

Why did you choose Computer Science at TGS?​

I’ve always loved solving problems and have been fascinated by all things technology. Computer Science at TGS was the perfect way to turnmy curiosity into real skills.​

Where did you go next? ​

I went on to study Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Birmingham, and then used my degree to begin mycareer as a Software Engineer. ​

What are you doing now? ​

I’m now a Lead Software Engineer at Kainos. My role involves designing and building digital systems, solving complex problems for ourcustomers and leading a great team of fellow developers. Every day is different, and I love the combination of creativity, logic, andcollaboration the job brings.​

What did you get from studying Computer Science at TGS?​

I realised I could build a career in this field and never looked back. TGS made the transition to university, and eventually into the workingworld, easy. My studies taught me how to think critically, manage my time and workload and communicate my ideas.​

Do you use the skills now?​

Absolutely! Every single day. Whether it’s breaking down a big problem into manageable parts, working through a tricky bug, collaboratingwith colleagues, or learning a new technology, the foundations laid at TGS still show up constantly in my work.​

Why choose Computer Science at TGS?​

If you’re considering Computer Science at TGS, I couldn’t recommend it more! I had great teachers - Mrs Ghali and Mr Owen - who createda supportive and inspiring environment. TGS gave me the chance to challenge myself, stay curious and develop a mindset that’s useful farbeyond school. Computer Science is a subject full of opportunities, and TGS is a fantastic place to begin that journey.
